IT MUST ALL BE DONE IN DARKNESS FOR DARKNESS IS AS LIGHT WITH YOU
mixed media (pine, masonite, metal, clay, oyster mushrooms)
Taking the dimensions of Harriet Jacobs’ “loophole of retreat”¹ (garret) as a point of departure, this series of large-scale and miniature sculptures are a meditation on (in)visibility, self-fashioned methods and apparatuses for escape and concealment, and modular minimalist forms. They also remember darkness as the progenitor of all life and the catalyst for transformative activity.
